about

Beatless, desolate, lost sounds. This album was composed entirely using Virtual ANS.

The ANS synthesizer is a photoelectronic musical instrument created by Russian engineer Evgeny Murzin from 1937 to 1957. The technological basis of his invention was the method of graphical sound recording used in cinematography (developed in Russia concurrently with USA), which made it possible to obtain a visible image of a sound wave, as well as to realize the opposite goal—synthesizing a sound from an artificially drawn sound spectrogram. - from Wikipedia

I thought this was an original idea until I discovered that Coil released a triple album of ANS noise back in 2004. Oh well.

Recorded Nov 2013 - May 2014 in between other projects.

Album review by MakeYourOwnTaste makeyourowntaste.com

This 2014 release caught my eye by being based on the sounds of the ANS synthesizer, that mysterious vintage synth of Russian origin that has such a distinctive sound (see the works of Astrowind for an example). Using the sampled sounds, D.N.P. has crafted a murky, mysterious dark ambient album (dark ambient is this artist’s thing). The drone works “Inside I’m Screaming” and “Death of Personality” are perfect examples of claustrophobic but still eerily beautiful sound art. I’m not sure if the album made me feel like a gulag victim or one of Stalin’s purgees, but there’s definitely a musty air of irrational horror pervading these recordings, and it’s no surprise considering the peculiar Soviet origin of the sounds. D.N.P. proves expert at creating dark ambient atmospheres, and in a very crowded subgenre, that stands out. makeyourowntaste.com/2014/08/19/august-netaudio-revue-2/
